Other people's newsstands

Now that our understanding of news and mass communications is as sophisticated as it is, it behooves us to look beyond our local papers to learn what is going on. Accepting that we may never really know, never really comprehend fully another person's reality, we can at least try from time to time to peer through their lenses. These links are offered in that spirit.

The section on media coverage is offered as a postscript. Since the media spends so much time in navel-gazing, it seems a pity not to include some of that work here.

Even as events unfold, reflection on the ways in which they are being constructed and narrated has begun. Why we need to create narrative frames, how we do so, and what it all means, on the one hand, and then the more straightforward questions about the media itself, are all issues we talk about.
